The heart of Liege, where Les Galeries St Lambert are located, has been a centre of commerce for decades. Indeed, as early as the 19th century, the Vaxelaire family set up their first Liege shop here, quickly followed by the legendary Grand Bazar, then the Bon Marché and Innovation. These shops quickly made place the most important commercial centre.
The oldest among us no doubt still remember the beauty and magic of the decorations which, particularly during the Christmas and New Year festivities, illuminated the architecturally remarkable facades of the shops. The area’s past is also intimately linked to the history of the “Cité Ardente” and its emblematic Place Saint-Lambert.
It was in 2004 that this shopping complex and its magnificent glass passage linking the two most famous districts of the Liege city centre finally opened its doors: Les Galeries St Lambert was born. They cover an area of 43,484 m², of which 41,114 m² is commercial space.
Today, Les Galeries St Lambert holds more than 30 shops in the heart of Liege and attracts more than 6,5 million visitors a year. Much more than a shopping centre, it is a real public square, a friendly gathering place surrounded by shops. It is a place where you can meet, stroll around, chat, attend frequent events and regular meetings. In short, you do not just come here to do your shopping. You come here to live a little! It must be said that the philosophy of the place goes beyond that of a simple shopping destination.
Les Galleries are truly in keeping with the very essence of Liege, living to the rhythm of the major events which enliven the squares around them and make the hearts of the people of Liege beat by offering ever more bizarre, convivial and spectacular events.
Remember, in May 2013, the attempt to hold the largest gathering of superheroes in the world or the work done on post-it notes on the glass part of Les Galleries during the Tour de France. There were a record 190,000 post-it notes and that record was made official by Guinness World Records. And then there are the giant human tongs, the annual Spectacular Arrivals of Saint Nicholas or the Cooking Challenge, our great cooking competition! And let us not forget the Picnic en Ville, where Les Galleries have taken the crazy gamble of completely covering the Place Saint-Lambert with fresh grass to offer a most convivial, original and above all unprecedented event in Liege!
Since the end of 2018, a breath of fresh air has been blowing at Les Galeries St Lambert: a new painting of the shopping area, a new logo, a new way of communicating, the opening of the Conciergerie du Centre-Ville, the Galeries’ gift card “ZE Gift Card” and the tram stopping right in front since May 2025.
They now define themselves as “ZE Shopping in Liege” and are very proud of it!
A shopping centre like no other, which has been living at the pace of our beautiful “Cité Ardente” for almost 15 years now and which has not finished impressing you!
In short, welcome home!
